Driving competency assessment


Objectives of driving competency assessment 

The objectives of driving competency assessment are to evaluate the driving ability and skill of the candidate.The candidate es expected to produce to produce his valid national driving license.No candidate is entitled to appear without it.The candidate will be given a series of two driving exercise in order to demonstrate their ability to complete the requirements mentioned below.

Phase 1-Handling exercise

The exercise will be carried out over a short period of time. Within 3 minutes, the candidate should drive the vehicle forward avoiding an obstacle and thereafter, in reverse whole avoiding an obstacle.Finally, the candidate must bring the vehicle into a parking place.


Phase 2-Road exercise

 The candidate will be subject to a drive on a non-public road or low-intensity traffic road.This exercise will expose the candidates to set of routines which cover various driving maneuvers that they would be expected to make in everyday driving.

Tips to complete driving competency assessment successfully

A.Parking and garaging test

(1)  Get on the vehicle and adjust the driving seat and all the mirrors.
(2)  Start the vehicle.Check your vehicle controls, such as parking brake.
(3)  Put on the seat belt.
(4)  Check the position of the gear.
(5)  Release the handbrake and move.
(6)  Adjust the clutch and accelerator with least vibration and move.
(7)  While reversing, turn your neck, look at the cones, and park the vehicle.
(8)  Remember: Do not move the vehicle and turn the steering wheel. If you do it you have little space to run.Turn the steering wheel left or right while the vehicle is motionless and then move roar vehicle, it gives you more space to turn the vehicle according to your will.

B.Road test
(1)Listen to the instructor/examiner and follow instruction.
(2)Drive slowly and defensively.
(3)While moving adjust the clutch and accelerator in such way that the vehicle does not trembles or shiver.
(4)Do not use the horn.
(5)When you reach any intersection or crossroad stop your vehicle look left or right, use the indicator and move.
(6)While driving attentively listen to the instruction of the examiner.
(7)While you are reducing the speed or stopping the vehicle push the brake slowly and smoothly.

Do not make sudden brake! 

The driver must dead slow vehicle down in a crossing or an intersection, going around a curve, top of a hill or on a narrow and windy road.Drivers must be aware pedestrians, traffic, weather, mechanical problems, also the road condition. 

Remember: Good driving does not mean to drive without facing any accident; rather it means to let the co-passenger feel that they are safe in your vehicle.
